In February 2011, 16 young adults arrived in Château-d'Oex, Switzerland, and have participated at a 10-days selection camp in order to be able to join Mike Horn’s next expedition, the “Magnetic North Pole”.
This expedition in North Pole took place from 27th April to 18th May 2011. The mission was to discover the Nunuati culture by joining communities of the Northern Territories of the North Pole Nunavut region. During this expedition, young explorers learnt about water salinity, ice and the conservation of the pole, climate adaptation, terrain elevation, temperature, wind speed and direction.
Amongst 16 young adults coming from all over the world to participate at the selection camp in Switzerland in February 2011, the following 7 explorers have been chosen:
- Ariane Ste-Marie, 19 years old, Canada
- Christopher Barco, 18 years old, Switzerland
- Luana Rebholz-Chaves, 18 years old, Switzerland
- Rick Andre Zwaan, 17 years old, New Zealand
- Saskia Bauer, 18 years old, Germany
- Felix He-Mao Hsu, 19 years old, China
- Maria Baranova, 20 years old, Russia
At the beginning of this expedition, each member of the team was given two Mike Horn Souvenir Evolution 17 Swiss Army Knives: one that they would use on their expedition, and another which they would gift to someone that they felt would benefit from the useful tool in some way.
