Everything started when we joined the elder games in Clyde River. We´ve already spent around 3 days in Clyde River in total, so we knew the young people a bit, but joining the elders playing traditional games was a completely new experience for all of us. The game we played was simple but a lot of fun. We all sat in a circle, in the middle a whole pile of sweets, fruits, soft drinks and other goodies. The aim of the game was to roll the dice, one after the other, and if you rolled a four you could grab a price from the middle. The cruel thing about the game was that you could also take an item that somebody else had before. So there was a lot of excitement and tension in the game, especially toward the end of the 10 minutes. Everybody tried to get the best items.
To give the elders the opportunity to win a special prize from us too I took my Wenger Knife, explained all its´ functions and placed it in the middle. As soon as the game started there was huge run on that knife. Those up to 80 year old elders literally jump across the room to get that knife. That game was really exciting, I could hardly belief how serious the elders took that game. Unfortunately the women that finally won my knife left right after the game and I did´t get a chance to speak to her. But of what I heard from others she´s 74 years old, and does a lot of embroidery work, so the knife will be an excellent tool to cut fur and finish her work in best quality.
It was a really special opportunity to be able to give that knife to those elders which shared a part of their life with us and gave us an interesting and unique view into their culture.
