Message from the Race Director (March 1, 2011)

I am filled with pride and enthusiasm as I write this message. Just two weeks ago, six teams crossed the finish line in the 9th edition of the Wenger Patagonian Expedition Race, one of the toughest and most challenging courses in our history. This year, racers kayaked, cycled and trekked over 500km through wild Patagonian fjordlands, dense forests, mountains, rivers, lakes, peat bog and open plains, enduring some of Patagonia's harshest weather conditions but experiencing some of the most spectacular and beautiful landscapes in the region.

It was a race full of excitement and thrill; a race that captured the true spirit of Patagonia. My congratulations go to the winning team AdidasTERREX/Prunesco for their third victory, and to the 13 other teams that participated in the quest for the title.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our sponsors for their continued support. Without your monetary and in ind support, the Wenger Patagonian Expedition Race would not be able to operate. No matter the size of your participation - we are most grateful.

Lastly, thank you to all our staff, interns, volunteers and press, many of whom return year after year to assist before, during and after the race. Your dedication and enthusiasm are critical in making the Wenger Patagonian Expedition Race a continued success.

Next year, we will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the 'last wild race' and I can assure you, the race will be bigger and better than ever before. I plan to create a race which not only showcases the wild beauty of Chile's diverse and remote Patagonia but also provides racers and volunteers with an experience like none other. I hope you will join me on this the quest to protect Patagonia.
