With just two days until race day, racers in team Four Continents finally met face-to-face.
The team members have come from four corners of the globe to compete in the 2011 Wenger Patagonian Expedition Race, the most southern race in the world.
The Four Continents racers, who live in Kazakstan, Australia, the US and the Czech Republic, have only communicated via email and Skype, but are confident about individual training preparations and the race.
"It’s a little different to form a team with racers from throughout the world, because we haven’t even trained together. But we all seem pretty relaxed and are getting on well," said team member Pavel Poloncy from the Czech Republic.
Meanwhile, team preparations were in full swing today with 11 of the 14 teams completing their official equipment checks and other race formalities.
Mountain bikes were assembled, rope equipment tested, backpacks packed and repacked and first aid kits checked. Ensuring all equipment has arrived safely and is in working order is a critical step in each teams’ preparation.
Behind the scenes, the Nomadas team is putting the finishing touches on the logistics required to run the race. Equipment is being transported to the route, food packed and organised for each checkpoint and final preparations made for tomorrow’s Opening Ceremony.
While racers will no doubt be trying to catch some much needed rest while they can, the Nomadas team is working around the clock as the start time fast approaches.
